The Truth of the 1950’s Housewife

As a traditionally feminine woman who strives daily to perfect that stereotypical image of the 1950’s housewife, I have to deal with a lot of different things. Unfortunately, one of those things includes a large number of people regularly degrading my favorite decade at every conceivable turn- especially when it comes to my interest in trying to emulate that. Redesigning Your Wardrobe Part 3; Buying Tips

Now that you have the basics sorted out- and have taken care of getting your wardrobe ready to add new items- the next step is to actually purchase items. This, however, is where people often get caught up the most. There are a wealth of companies, but following some of these tips can really help you sort it all out and wind up with a wardrobe that you enjoy.

Redesigning Your Wardrobe Part 2; Tackling Your Closet

Once you’ve gone through the basics to give you a rough idea of what you are looking for to start your wardrobe, where do you go next? The obvious answer is straight to your closet, of course!

Please be aware, though, that like with everything else on my blog this is my own experience and opinion. Some tips might not be applicable to your own style (once you find it), or budget, and that is fine. Hopefully, however, this will help to give you a rough idea of what you need or want to do to get your wardrobe fully changed over to your dream Vintage one!

Redesigning Your Wardrobe Part 1; Getting Down to the Basics

Since I became more active in posting about my Vintage wardrobe swap, I have received quite a few questions about the process. People ask what I did, how I did it, and what I think the essentials are- and they are all really great questions. To be honest, I wish that I had someone to answer many of the same ones for me when I was working out how to go about it, so I thought I would consolidate them all into one post staring from the beginning. A Bit of a Shopping Spree

This week we had more money that we’ve had in a long time; we payed off the first of our Loans, making us one step closer to being debt free; my Husband also received a holiday bonus that was pretty wonderful, and we also woke up to a payment for my book- something I did not expect for another week at least. Needless to say, we certainly celebrated a bit. Antique Treasures

There are a number of mom-and-pop antique shops lining main street in the downtown area of our little town. I have memories of Sunday mornings with my father discovering all their hidden little treasures before heading off to the flea market. unfortunately most of them have closed their doors over the years, but a few still remain- a good thing for my Husband and I, too. You’ll never guess what we were lucky enough to find! Continue reading “Antique Treasures”

Redesigning My Wardrobe; My Outfits of Choice

There are so many items that were on my original lists, but I have managed to whittle them down to a few targeted outfits!

I have tried to force myself to pick a few colors that I would not usually wear (so much yellow!), but I did not consider any of the items I already own at the moment. I will probably do that later once I have finished purchasing new clothes and finalize what I am going to donate from my current wardrobe.

The original lists have been updated to add / remove items that I wasn’t able to pair in the end (or didn’t like as much as I thought I did). As of right now I only have two final items on the list to save for that aren’t paired with an outfit. I am going to keep them on the lists, however, because they still fit and there are definitely other outfits pieces can be swapped with.

Redesigning My Wardrobe; Wardrobe Plans

It has long since been a dream of mine to have a Vintage 1940’s to 1950’s inspired wardrobe. Until now that has been little more than an aesthetic pipe dream of mine, however. With my recent promotion at work, though, that dream will hopefully be a reality soon. As such I have compiled a quick reference list of the items I plan to purchase.
