Bless Your Heart: Saving the World One Covered Dish at a Time

Of all the “Southern Cookbooks” that I own, this one has ultimately turned out to be my least favorite.
The anecdotes were interesting enough and added a nice personal touch to the book. The recipes, however, were a let down. Some are certainly classics and I will keep it around for a few of the recipes in it… But ultimately I do have to agree with one reviewer on GoodReads who said that it reads”more like a badly-done church cookbook when it came to the actual recipes”.
The formatting is also terrible. It is organized, certainly. But at the same time it is also disorganized compared to other cookbooks. Recipes are grouped almost by “circumstance” and then the individual recipes for each group are then thrown in hazardously with no real rhyme or reason that I can make out. It makes it almost impossible to find the recipes you are looking for unless you bookmark the pages for each specific recipe you enjoy.
I have better Southern influenced cookbooks in my collection, for sure. Still, that being said I have made more than a few recipes in this book- and while a lot of them are different than the cuisine I grew up with (which is still Southern, but decidedly of another breed) more than a few are still tasty
